What equipment should you put in your daypack when traveling?
I had already done an article on essential hiking equipment. Today I’m going to talk about travel in general, and tell you what I carry with me in my little day backpack when I travel. This is what I take away in general, and this is not always the case, I will clarify it gradually in the article. But before starting, I invite you to take a look at my article to choose the right day backpack.
Things to put in your backpack for the day while traveling
When I travel, and I think you do the same, I leave my big backpack at the hostel, airbnb, or hotel. So during the day, I only carry a few things in my small backpack. If you don’t know what to put in your bag, this little list will help you.
Essential Objects:
Among them are the essential items that I carry every day, no matter where I go or what I’m going to do.
A gourd :
So I opted for one filter bottle, but you can take a classic water bottle (stainless steel, isothermal etc ..). It’s essential, you have to drink, you know that!
An external battery:
I take a lot of photos and videos during the day, in addition to often using applications like maps.me. When the battery of my smartphone is off during the day, I plug it into my external battery in order to recharge.
My rain cover:
Unfortunately my small day pack doesn’t have a built-in rain cover, so I carry a cover purchased separately. We are never safe from the rain!
Poncho or Kwai:
In the same way as the cover, I always take a kwai or a rain jacket. To cover me from the rain, but also from the wind.
My wallet :
Of course I always have my wallet and my travel belt. In order to secure my papers and my money. The wallet in the pocket, and the belt in the bag (yes I know, it’s normally around the stomach ^^)
My Cap:
Just as it can rain, it can be sunny, and so I always take with me something to protect myself, a cap so and sunscreen!
First aid kit:
And yes, it is of no use in your big backpack if you hurt yourself during the day. So I take with me a little care kit with the bare minimum (especially dressings).
Optional Objects:
There are also objects that I take, but which do not necessarily concern everyone
My pocket ashtray:
Well, that’s because I’m a smoker unfortunately, and I don’t like throwing my cigarette butts everywhere. So I take a little pocket ashtray, which I put in one of the exterior pockets.
Tripod or Pole:
I sometimes take a small tripod for my smartphone, especially when I attend sunsets/sunrises to take timelapses. 🙂
Zap It + Anti-Mosquito Spray:
Depending on the area I also take a mosquito repellent spray, and the zap it to avoid itching. Believe me it’s useful at the end of the day. 😉
My Straw:
Another object that I take but that not everyone will necessarily take is my reusable straw. I’m happy to have it when I go to the bar at the end of the day to relax with a drink with my friends.
3 – Occasional Objects:
And finally the items I take depending on the type of day and what I’m going to do:
Microfiber towel:
If I am traveling and during the day there is a water point and good weather, there is a good chance that I will swim. When I can plan, I take my microfibre towel to dry myself.
Waterproof pouch:
Same as above, if I know that I am going to swim and that the spot lends itself to a little snorkelling for example, I bring my waterproof smartphone pouch, to be able to film. And if I took it, I take my snorkelling equipment.
Food box:
In cases where at lunchtime/evening, I would not necessarily be back at the hostel or near a restaurant, I prepare something to eat, and I put it in my travel food box ! Savings I tell you!
Covered :
And since I take my meal, to eat I need my travel cutlery. It’s the same, it’s occasional and I only take them for a home meal/picnic!
Foldable cup:
Finally, and in the same way as the two objects mentioned above, I take my cup. I take it more often, because I use it to drink takeaway coffee when I have it! 🙂
The importance of having the right equipment during the day
When traveling, it is essential to properly prepare your day backpack to fully enjoy your worry-free experience. The first step is to choose the right materials and organize them efficiently. Having the right gear in your backpack will ensure that you are prepared for any possible situation, whether it be weather changes, physical challenges, or even health issues. For example, consider including appropriate clothing, necessities such as medications, snacks, accessories for your camera, personal hygiene items, and perhaps even a notebook to record your adventures. This way you will avoid many inconveniences and you will feel more confident when exploring new destinations, knowing that you are well prepared for your days of discovery.
In conclusion, opinion and summary!
I make this list based on what I bring. Of course, some travelers will take more, others less and/or will not take the same things. It’s more to give you an idea, if you’re going on a trip for the first time for example, and therefore not to forget something that you might miss later. Note that all this also depends on the size of your day backpack. The smaller it is, the less you can put, and the larger it is, the more you will tend to take. If your bag is too small, don’t hesitate to take one shoulder bag for example, to put what is less important, like your picnic or other items in this sense!
