There are thousands of us who want traveling in the footsteps of Claire and Jamie, these heroes with an extraordinary destiny, who make us discover a Scotland just as unique! During your trip, you will discover settings imbued with this universe, and the Scotland of the last Jacobite rebellion.

Stroll around Edinburgh

For your first day, let yourself be tempted by the penetrating charm of Edinburgh. Take advantage of this trip to explore the history of the Jacobites! Your getaway will enlighten you on the links between the city and Prince Charles Edward Stuart. You can take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the political realities of the time to which Claire was exposed. A quick visit to Edinburgh will be more than enough to better immerse yourself in the atmosphere that reigned in 1743.

Take the road to the Trossachs

Follow the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway, and admire the place where Claire and Frank said goodbye. Today known as the railway station of London, the railway combines romance and authenticity. Outlander fans can then head towards Trossachs, and admire Callendar House along the way. The building, renamed Bellhurst Manor, is the home of the Duke of Sandringham. Not far from Callander, you will also discover Doune Castle, which is none other than the Mackenzie residence.

Continue your journey to Stirling

Stirling was the filming location for first two seasons of the Outlander series. There you will find Hopetoun House, which was built in the 17th century. The site is located near South Queensferry, and nestles in the middle of a 2,630 hectare estate. Several parts of the property served as settings for the scenes that took place in the Sandringham home. This is also where certain scenes of the Hawkins estate and the Paris apartment were filmed. On the same estate is Midhope Castle, the exterior of which lent its setting to Lallybroch. Although visible from afar, Midhope only offers limited access. However, it is still possible to visit it, by obtaining a vehicle permit from Hopetoun Farm Shop, right next door.

Continue to Inverness and near Loch Ness

Your trip on the theme of Outlander can also lead you to more traditional sites, but just as interesting. Inverness tops the list of these places to visit. Start your day early, and explore this place that is both atypical and magical. Inverness is a city that can be discovered at the rhythm of the day. Once you have toured it, you can head towards Urquhart Castle, then Loch Ness. Take advantage of your stay to stroll through the sumptuous Highland town, where Claire and Frank spent their second honeymoon. The place will speak to the fans who started the adventure of the novels. If you spend more than a day there, you can also see the museum and art gallery, the Victorian market, or the Inverness Botanical Gardens.
