Are you planning a trip to theReunion Island in the coming weeks or months? Are you looking for information but above all to know which are the essential places to visit, the places to absolutely see or the activities to do and not to miss while there? Discover in this article my top 8 things to do or see on Reunion Island in order to prepare your trip well!

Reunion Island

1. Volcanoes

How to get to Reunion Island or rather talk about it, without mentioning its famous volcanoes. The Piton de la Fournaise in particular, but also the Piton des Neiges, will offer lovers of hiking and spectacular viewpoints an unforgettable moment. We can also mention Piton Maïdo, even if it is not a volcano but a mountain peak. However, be careful with the altitude and difficulty.

2. Circuses

After these two high peaks, if you still have legs, then I invite you to discover the cirques of Reunion. Three in my opinion are worth the detour, namely the Cilaos cirque, that of Mafate and finally that of Salazie. You don’t have to do all three of course. Personally, I recommend that of Cilaos and Mafate.

3. The Waterfalls

If you are more the type to appreciate water points and other pools, then you absolutely must stop at one of the many waterfalls on the island. We can then cite the Bridal Veil Waterfall, the Trou de Fer waterfalls, the Niagara waterfall or even the Anse des cascades! However, I have a preference for the Cascade Langevin (or Grand Galet) where you can also swim or the Bassin de la Paix.

4. The beaches

Reunion being an island, as you can imagine, there are also beaches. Here again, you cannot travel to Reunion without taking some time to sunbathe on the fine sand and go swimming. Among the most beautiful beaches we find Grande Anse, but also Ermitage beach and Boucan Canot beach.

5. Capes and points

After this little rest on a beach, it is time to resume your car rental in Reunion to explore the capes and points. Here again, breathtaking views, especially when you go to the Cap Noir, Cap Méchant, or Pointe au sel for those who appreciate the salt marshes. The opportunity to enjoy numerous panoramas, beautiful trails but above all to observe nature.

6. Cities and villages

A little city obviously doesn’t hurt. Nature is worth seeing for sure, but certain towns or villages also deserve your attention. For example, you can go and discover the village of Hell-Bourg if you like the historical side, just like go to Saint-Pierre (also called the capital of the South) if you like marinas, or even Saint-Paul for its landing stage which overlooks the bay as far as the cities are concerned, without forgetting of course the capital of Reunion, I named Saint-Denis.

7. Creole Gastronomy

Traveling, whether to Reunion Island or elsewhere, also means enjoying the local gastronomy. The opportunity to introduce our taste buds to new flavors. Reunion has some local dishes like rougail, but also many fruits and vegetables. The ideal is to go to a market, stroll through the aisles and taste the different specialties on offer.

8. Water activities

During your trip you can of course take the opportunity to indulge in some aquatic activities such as diving and snorkelling. Reunion is an excellent place to see dolphins, turtles and even whales. Ideally in their natural environment, you will also be able to see certain species in sanctuaries or centers.
