Phuket, the largest island in Thailand, is today one of the main destinations for tourists. Its beaches remain the main attraction for visitors to this day. However, there are at least 10 things to see or do absolutely.
Stroll on the beaches
The most beautiful beaches in Phuket are those on the west coast from where it is possible, apart from walks, to go snorkeling or simple diving. The most famous are Karon Beach, Kata Beach, Kata Noi and Nai Han.
The statue of Buddha
Of Burmese origin, the immense Buddha statue is made of marble and is located at the top of Nakkerd Hill. Remarkable at 25 meters in height, this Buddha statue is visible throughout the city and is a religious site that you can visit.
Admire the sunsets
Almost every corner of Phuket is interesting for admiring sunsets. One of the best spots is Promthep, Kata-Karon, Rarar-Hill and Windmill Viewpoint.
Discover Ko Phi Phi
Surely, one of the places that made Phuket famous is Ko Phi Phi. Used as a setting for Leonardo Di Caprio’s film, Ko Phi Phi beach in May Bay attracts many tourists every year.
Wat Chalong temple
Wat Chalong temple is by far the largest temple in Phuket but also in the list of the most visited sites in the country. This site is famous with its Thai-style decorations and its statues from Buddhist mythology.
Phuket Old Town
Strolling through the old town of Phuket with its vestiges of Sino-Portuguese colonial architecture and its spectacular Chinese-style houses takes you back in time to the 20th centuries. Walking around Phuket will allow you to dive directly into the history of Thailand.
Kayaking
In southern Thailand there is a bay resembling Vietnam’s Halong, Phang Nga Bay. It is a must-see site during your visit to Phuket since it is a place which will offer you a magnificent landscape with its caves in which you can go kayaking.
Go diving
For diving enthusiasts, you will also have your little corner of paradise in Phuket, more precisely in the Similan Islands. Located a few hundred kilometers further north of Phuket, the Similan Islands are renowned as one of the best diving spots, enough to delight water sports enthusiasts.
Live a new adventure
Going to Phuket also means living new experiences such as quad biking in the jungle, bungee jumping, climbing, paramotoring and tree climbing. For those who prefer things less intense, a horseback ride is offered.
Attend the vegetarian festival
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the vegetarian festival takes place during the ninth month; for about ten days, the locals follow a strictly vegetarian diet, according to them, to purify themselves in order to participate in their sacred rituals.
