Indeed, bringing waterproof clothing such as a good coat, water-repellent pants, waterproof shoes and a sturdy umbrella guarantees significant comfort during your travels and visits. Taking the trouble to protect yourself from the rain is not only a wise investment to avoid injuries and cold snaps, but also to preserve the durability of your electronic devices which could be affected by humidity. Finally, think of the beauty of landscapes shrouded in a veil of rain and the unique sensations they provide. No longer afraid of getting wet, you will be able to appreciate these wonders with serenity and wonder.

The best rain accessories when traveling

Because unfortunately, the weather is not always good, the sun is not always there, we need a minimum of equipment and materials to protect ourselves from the rain while traveling. Among them :

For your backpack

Good protection is essential from the moment you decide to travel with a backpack. If the choice is vast, the accessories to choose must offer good value for money.

  • The waterproof lining : These flexible polyethylene liners are known for their waterproofing. They slip into the bag, and offer an additional level of protection to your belongings. Depending on the brand and model, the dimensions will vary greatly. It won’t be difficult to find liners whose height and width will fit the size of your bag. The models that you will find on the market are very economical. They can be purchased in batches or individually, for a few euros. Check their resistance level, as well as the capacities offered
  • The rain cover : it is better to take precautions than to expose your belongings to the rain. If you can’t control the weather, you can plan how you protect your belongings. There rain cover covers the entire external surface of your backpack. It will not damage its aesthetics: the models on sale on the web or in specialized stores come in several colors. Many also offer more or less striking patterns, to make it easier to locate your bag.

For pharmacy and hygiene products

Your pharmacy products are extremely sensitive. Exposure to water or humidity will damage them very quickly. Likewise, certain hygiene products must be protected from water particles. The accessories that protect them will prevent the development of mold or harmful accumulations.

  • The waterproof storage bag for the pharmacy : pharmacy products must be stored in a bag with reinforced protection. This accessory offers a closing method that fully covers your aid kit. Ideally, its structure will be compact, light, and very resistant. Check the presence of sealing strips and the quality of the closure. The stability of its base will also be a key criterion for storing your pharmacy and accessing it quickly.
  • The waterproof toiletry bag : this accessory will protect your hygiene products from rain and humidity. More broadly, it prevents possible deposits of these products on sensitive elements. A waterproof toiletry bag will prevent soap and shampoo from dripping or crumbling on your clothes and groceries. It is a practical addition to a bag and a rain cover, and prevents possible leaks

To stay safe in the rain

Who says rain, also says radical drop in temperature and lack of visibility. To travel in these conditions, the list of essential accessories must also promote your safety.

  • A headlamp : more practical than a classic flashlight, the headlamp frees your hands while you travel. Although it is especially useful when camping, you can also use it in town. This travel lamp will make your travels easier, and will keep you visible from a good distance
  • A survival blanket : it will be especially useful if you go camping during the rainy season. The survival blanket will be your best ally as soon as the temperatures drop. It can be used in the tent, or even in the car if you need it

For your clothes!

Because ultimately what fears the most when traveling, besides your backpack, is you. Staying dry is essential to avoid getting sick. So, you will probably need:

A poncho : A classic for me, which I always put in my backpack. THE rain poncho, made of light plastic, like a small trash bag. I admit that it’s not very eco-friendly though.

A rain jacket : A kwai or waterproof jacket is, in my opinion, essential. Choose a jacket that will be useful in all circumstances, and do not take a rain jacket in addition to a down jacket for example.

Rain pants: Rain pants are an ideal accessory to protect your legs from the rain. This prevents the pants from getting soaked and the underwear too.

Waterproof shoes : Some hiking or travel shoes have a goretex coating providing them with a certain degree of waterproofing. Note that they are still less breathable.

For your electronic equipment

Because obviously, we think about it a little less often but we still have some gear with us when we travel. Smartphone, computer for some, and there again you must protect them.

The pouches : For your smartphone, but also for your papers or your money, a small waterproof pouch is in my opinion an essential travel accessory against the rain.

The covers : For your computer for example a protective cover which is therefore waterproof or waterproof is important.

Note that some electronic objects, can basically be protected from rain and humidity, in their waterproof version. I think of the tablets, waterproof smartphones, to waterproof hard drives or even to waterproof cameras.

What to do when it rains while traveling?

Although rain can sometimes seem like a hindrance when traveling, it doesn’t have to ruin your trip. On the contrary, a downpour can often give a unique and romantic atmosphere to a city, making it even more memorable. In order to fully enjoy these moments, it is essential to protect yourself from the rain and protect your belongings. Consider packing a sturdy umbrella, a lightweight raincoat, and water-resistant shoes.
